  1. Matthew 11:28-30

    Matthew 11:28-30 [MSG]
Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.

I am a big fan of the ESV and rarely look at other translations these days, but when I do I am reminded of why it is often helpful. A new friend bought the above verses to my attention in the Message translation about a week ago because it had really moved her - and wow has it moved me! Every time I read it, it's like a new refreshing wave of joy crashing over me!

At this time of year I think many of us would answer "yes" to the questions "Are you tired? Worn out?"! Even if it has been a great year, which for me it has. This year I have seen God do such amazing things with my little business Grace and Salt ink. It's birth in March alone seemed amazing, how God was answering all the prayers of my heart in one place - to have a job that worked around out daughter, that I could freely create and bring people closer to him through his word. It has been incredible to see God answer these prayers and more, as He has led and grown the business. I am blessed beyond measure and thankful daily. Yet still, at points, I have felt overwhelmed in a slightly more negative way by it all - "too many orders" and starting to feel under pressure and stressed. This has never been the idea, mine or God's for the business. ("I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.") I felt Him say more recently I need to rest. Rest in Him. Come and take rest. As many different ways of saying "REST REBECCA!!" and in as many different ways as you can think until I decided to stop and close the shop for December. A bold move perhaps, and I know some people think I'm a bit crazy closing for the busiest time of the year. However I know that is what God has been telling me to do, and I know it is what I needed. After I made my decision and announced it doubt did creep in - the date I closed was just before small business Saturday and cyber Monday - potentially two busiest sales days of the year. I had an article published in a magazine, potential new customers coming to the site after reading my article will find the shop closed and may never return... have I made a mistake?!

I know I haven't. Firstly, I trust God - He has led this business from the start and I don't believe harm will come to it because I follow what He is asking of me! Also, I have felt a weight lifted and such peace enjoying family time. Celebrating my daughter's second birthday, enjoying family visiting with no worries about orders and emails! I am focusing my eyes on Jesus in the run up to Christmas - as I should be, rather than excel sheets and PayPal! Walking with Jesus and learning "the unforced rhythms of grace". I love this phrase so much ... drink it in for a moment "the unforced rhythms of grace"... Jesus offers us grace and an invitation to "live freely and lightly" and this advent I am doing my best to accept both these wonderful gifts and live in them!

Happy Christmas to you and yours x

  2. Happy Friday!

Today is the last day before I close the shop for the rest of the year until Monday 4th January. I'm doing this so that I can spend December with my my family, celebrating our daughter's second birthday, relaxing with the various family members who will be visiting and having lots of quiet time getting stuck into my journaling Bible to really focus on advent, Christmas and Jesus - the real reason for the season!

Those of you hoping this contains Black Friday offers... I am sorry to disappoint, but there are too good reasons why I won't have a Black Friday Sale: the first being Grace and Salt Ink is proud to be a British company and Black Friday is not a British tradition. Secondly, it does not fit with business ethos - each Grace & Salt ink product is loving hand made with a lot of love and prayers, which takes a fair bit of time. If I had a massive sale this close to Christmas I would not be able to fulfil those orders, in time for Christmas, without seriously compromising on the Grace & Salt ink quality that you know and love. This is the reason I had my "Christmas Shopping Event" in October - because it gave me plenty of time to fulfil orders at the same high quality before Christmas.

So thank you so much for your support throughout this first year and I look forward to returning in January with the same well loved products, as well as some exciting new ones!

God bless and I hope you and yours have a blessed Christmas!
    Love, Rebecca

  3. faithdori

I've had a couple of people ask recently if I will sell an inkDori without the pocket prayer journal insert - the short answer is no, the basic inkDori comes with a PPJ and all the others have one in too (and it's actually "free" I don't cost it in, so even if I took it out you wouldn't save any money). But more importantly the long answer is this, no the pocket prayer journal is an integral part of the inkDori because it's not just a "fauxdori" it's a "FAITHdori". I had a big debate at the start wether to call it a "FaithDori", "PrayerDori" but then settled on "inkDori" to tie it to the brand a bit more. I pray into each and every one as I make them and I've been amazed at the stories I've already heard about conversations that have started over several inkDori! Prayer is at the centre of Grace & Salt ink and at the heart of each inkDori, that's why I include the "PRAY" tab on the front for free and the pocket prayer journal in the middle! 😘

  4. Mark 11 v 24

Mark 11v24 "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."

I want to say this is so so true!! I'm a big advocate of prayer. I've seen God answer so many, some small, some massive!! Some seemingly impossible and our extravagant Heavenly Father has just blown it completely out of the water!! That's not to say every prayer is answered, exactly how and when I want (which in some cases, with hindsight, I'm very thankful for)! There are prayers I am still praying six plus years on with no "yes" in sight. But I know for sure God listens to *every*single*prayer*! When I started praying about "my new job" now I'm a Mother I aimed high, but I had no idea how much God would answer my request and more through the birth of my little business Grace & Salt ink. When I hit 1k followers on the Grace & Salt ink Instagram last week I was blown away by the response to this little idea I had and dared to step out in! Thank you all, thank you God!

Prayer is something God has been teaching me more and more about over this last week and I am currently working on a new structured pocket prayer journal for next year!
